Recovered and melted volcanic stones, obsidian and copper pipes.
Variable measures
We collect small volcanic stones of unknown origin, sold through shops located in European towns without volcanoes around and intended to decorate gardens. Then, we melted the stones to briefly return them to their state of lava, to their memory of magma.
The series has several versions: the small ones were melted into ceramic sculptures that function as ovens. While in a furnace for melting metals, the recovered stones were joined together into a larger body.
Obsidian is a crystallized volcanic stone. It is produced when lava comes out of a volcano and cools rapidly, crystallizing. It was widely used in Mesoamerica in knives, weapons and parts of deities. This series of Lavas dialogues with finely polished obsidian from Mexico.
